Shoulder and arm

Physical therapy for shoulder pain and the arm that goes with it, for people who reach, climb, swim and lift.

This care is for you if

  • Reaching overhead or behind you has become something you plan around

  • You cannot sleep on one side without waking

  • An elbow or wrist is sore after racquet sports, tools or a keyboard

  • You fell on an outstretched arm and your doctor has cleared you to move it

What a visit looks like

  • What we do

Otis checks how your neck, shoulder blade and arm work together, uses hands-on techniques to ease stiff joints and builds your strength back with exercises you can do at home.

  • What decides how many visits

How irritated the shoulder is, how strong it is, what your work and hobbies ask of it, and how it responds as the load goes up. He sets that out for you at the first visit.

  • Who treats you

Otis treats your shoulder himself at every visit. Zoe may run your exercise sets beside him, and he checks in on each one.

Questions about this care

Do I need an MRI before I come?

Usually not. Otis examines you first. If something needs imaging or a physician's look, he tells you and says why.

Is a stiff shoulder something exercise can help?

Often it is part of the plan, with the amount of stretching and strengthening matched to what the shoulder tolerates. Otis explains the choices and the risks before you start.
